Psychological Testing

In order for a psychological assessment to be fair, reliable and valid, I believe it is important to cater to each client’s individual needs and background while still making use of a comprehensive test battery.

Psychological testing can be done with individuals of all ages and I specialise in the following areas:

  •   Cognitive functioning and ability assessments, and screening for ADD/ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, etc. for    adults and children.
  •   Subject choice and career guidance.
  •   Grade placements for learners.
  •   Extra-time allocation and other allowances for learners.
  •   Study skills for learners and students.

Depending on goal of the assessment, I make use of a combination of the following measures/methods:

  1.   A comprehensive interview with the client (and parent/s or guardian/s in case of a minor) which includes              biopsychosocial background and current information.
  2.   Intelligence and aptitude tests, e.g. WAISSA-IV, WISC-IV, DAP (various forms).
  3.   Projective tests, e.g. DAP, KFD, Incomplete Sentences.
  4.   Personality Tests, e.g. 16PF, 15FQ+, MBTI, JPQ.
  5.   Interest Tests, e.g. SAVII, OIP.
  6.   Scholastic Tests, e.g. Scholastic Battery (English and Afrikaans), WAIT-II.
  7.   Other tests, e.g. QNST, DASS, RAVLT, PTSD checklist, BDI, ASDQ, etc.

The psychological testing process usually takes a few hours, but can also take place over one or two days, depending on the availability and functional level of the client. In order to obtain the most reliable and valid results, I believe it is important to provide adequate breaks during the assessment process during which the client can walk around, and have something to eat or drink.

After completion of the test battery, all measures are scored and I proceed in compiling a comprehensive, but reader-friendly report that includes results, integration of background information from the interview and discussion of results, findings, and recommendations. Following completion of the report, a feedback session is scheduled with the client during which the results, findings and recommendations are discussed, and relevant referrals are provided. The client is also furnished with a copy of the written report.

The costs for each psychological assessment depends on the nature and goal of the assessment and can be discussed with me.
